I. Is 25: 6- 10
II. Mt 15: 29 - 37
Today’s scripture readings present the theme of a banquet
that God will provide for all who have kept faith in him. This important
message should offer hope to our hearts in this Advent season when we look
forward to the final coming of Christ. The first reading tells us about an
invitation for the banquet that sorrow and death will be no more. Today in the
gospel we find the same thing, that Jesus is going up to the mountain along
with his disciples and big crowed followed him. People might have heard the powerful
preaching of Jesus and touched their hearts. The faith made them to bring sick
people to Jesus like lame, blind, deaf and maimed to heal them from their
sicknesses. After seeing these things people were amazed and began to praise
and thank God, for the wonders that God has done in their lives.
Jesus moved with compassion for the people who have
been following him for three days and have nothing to eat. He is very much
aware that people need physical food and as well as spiritual food. The reason behind
is that the disciples failed to see Jesus as the son of God who can do great
miracle among them. Jesus is the bread of life which has come down from heaven.
Jesus himself says that whoever eat my body and drink my blood will have
eternal life. Today in our daily Eucharist we receive Jesus in the form of
bread in our lives. It is in our Christian faith; we believe that God is
present in the form of small bread. This faith will help us to experience Jesus
personally in our lives.
