I. Isaiah 29:17-24
II. Mt 9:27-31
“Behold,
our Lord shall come with power; he will enlighten the eyes of his
servants”. Jesus gradually manifests
himself as the Messiah promised by Yahweh through the prophets. The advent of the “Holy One of Israel” has
come. “Son of David” cures the blind and restores the sight. God is at work in
this event. Jesus invites us to open our eyes and hearts that are closed to any
possibility of salvation. The recognition of Jesus as the messiah by the blind
men might have exasperated the Pharisees. But the blind men’s priority is to
receive the sight not the authority of Pharisees. Someone who can grant them
sight is greater than the authorities. That is the reason why the blind men
“went out and proclaimed the miraculous recovery of sight. St. Jerome says that the blind men spread the
news of their cure, not out of disobedience to Jesus, but because it was the
only way they could express their gratitude. Can we proclaim in gratitude,
together with the Psalmist “The LORD is my light and my salvation”?
