I. Heb 2:14-18
II. Mk 1:29-39
Theme: God is our care taker.
The first reading emphasizes that the Son of God shared in our human nature to the extent that he endured temptation, suffering and death. Only in this way Jesus be the merciful and faithful high priest whom we need to present us before God the Father. Since the reading says that Jesus came to help the children of Abraham. In the gospel reading we hear that Jesus is again in the healing ministry. As soon as he arrived in the house of Peter and Andrew the first person to be healed was Peter’s mother in-law. Then, a large number of people with various kinds of deceases crowded around Jesus and he healed them all. The healing session continued till the night. Again, in the morning the crowds came seeking Jesus. But Jesus was missing. Peter went in search of him in the lonely place and Jesus was in deep prayer. Was it necessary for the Son of God to take time in prayer? Was he not always in communion with the father? Jesus gives us an example by creating time to intimately communion with his father, even when it is meant cutting down in his sleep. We, on the other hand, tend to cut down on our prayer when we busy and overworked. Let us give priority to our spiritual life and grow in intimacy.
